Synopsis of the Story
The audio adventure unfolds as the ancient voice of Melodeon imparts a brief history of the gods. The listener is immediately drawn into the story as sound and music create the atmosphere. After this brief introduction, the main character, Gelvon, is introduced. He shares his tale of a terrible childhood trauma. This brings the listener to the past where the fate of Gelvons mother and father are revealed. The stage is set for the conflict between
Gelvon, and the evil wizard, Vandermast.
Meanwhile, Vandermast also reflects. His childhood is one that begins with an equally troubling encounter, yet yields very different results. Vandermast is stripped of his innocence by an evil priest named Skeflar. In order for Vandermast to obtain the magic that Skeflar possesses, he must take the life of his best friend; his own sister. As Vandermast returns to the present, he finds himself more determined to rid himself of needless emotions.
The listener is then brought back to the humble dwelling of Gelvon who is soon greeted by his most trusted companion, Feldon the dwarf. Gelvon decides to travel to the home of his dear friend and fellow wizard, Locust. The two men plan what may be their final assault against Vandermast.
Locust has devised a plan. This plan involves Locusts son, Tarron, who must unknowingly play a major part. Locust has used the arts of magic to master the use of sacred stones that will be used in teleportation. A history of the stones is then imparted to the listener.
Locust and Gelvon travel to Vandermasts castle. Locust suffers a fatal blow from a fire spell that Vandermast casts. Upon returning to Locusts home, Locust reveals, as he lays in his deathbed, his "ultimate underlying plan." Gelvon must struggle with the issues that ensue. Finally he makes the decision to stand by Locusts wishes. Tarron must witness his fathers death so that he may find his own destiny.
During his grieving process, Tarron happens upon a young girl, Arnella, who has also been orphaned. Her entire village, including her parents, has been enslaved or destroyed by Vandermasts troops. Arnella is the only one to escape her captive. Arnella decides to join Tarron and return to his home. The two join in a pact that their mission will be to free those who suffer under the evil reign of Vandermast.
Gelvon decides that the efforts against Vandermast must continue. Tarron has been training with Feldon in the ways of war. Gelvon and Tarron are at odds as to how to proceed against Vandermast. Tarron convinces Gelvon that joining forces with the army in Bladensburgis the best solution. As the companions travel, Gelvon instructs Tarron in the ways of magic, which he vehemently protests.
Upon arrival in Bladensburg, Tarron hears of the role he is expected to play in the battle. He is in disagreement secretly reveals to Arnella his own plan. He has decided that he will confront Vandermast personally and avenge the death of his father. Arnella reluctantly joins him.
During the heat of the battle, Tarron secretly breaks away from the main battle group. Unexpectedly, he learns that Gelvon has been wounded. When he reaches the wizard, he is overcome with rage. Tarron grabs the stone from within Gelvons cloak and teleports to the castle. Here, he confronts his nemesis and seemingly kills him, only to find the figure was an illusion. Vandermast lives! Tarron is overcome! End of the First Volume.
